Project Management Week 5 (32541)

Project Management Week 5 (32541)

Recap on Iron triangle

Does giving extra week to the project change anything in the iron triangle?

we can’t say for certain what will happen. there are many other factors. to just simply determine how the triangle would change.

Time management

Many managers cite delivering projects on time as a major challenge.

Time has very little flexibility.

  1. Define activities (planning)
  2. Sequence activities (planning)
  3. estimate duration (planning)
  4. develop schedule (planning)
  5. monitor and control schedule

Estimating Task Durations (PERT)

PERT, is a 3 point estimating technique.

Task Dependencies

These relationships create dependencies

always left to right

finish-start relationship: activity can’t begin until all of its predecessors are complete

arrows indicate flow (time) and should not cross over

Identify with unique number (or letters)

Conditional statements and looping not allowed. (as this indicates that it’s a process instead of a project.)

Critical Path Method

Forward Pass

Backward Pass

Schedule (Time) Management

Process used to ensure the timely completion of project.

Schedule to keep track of the progress.

Time has very little flexibility, it keeps going

Monitoring: comparing with baseline (plans)

Controlling: taking action
